The Chateau of Slavkov is a unique example of Baroque architecture in Italian style,
built according to plans by Domenico Martinelli of Lucca in the 1690-1769 period. The
interior was realized by leading Italian artists of that time (frescoes by Andreas
Lanzanus, stuccowork by Santino Bussi, sculptures by G. Giuliani) and by Austrian court
painters and sculptors (J. Pichler, F.X. Messerschmidt). An important part of this chateau
is a large park, established in 1774 as a French garden and now partially reconstructed
into its original appearance.
Middle Age is reminded by remnants of the town's fortification system from the 15th
century and several preserved medieval houses (for example the town hall, built in 1592).
The core of the town consists of mostly Renaissance buildings. From the Jewish town the
synagogue (built in 1858), the rabbi's house and the cemetery have been preserved.
Beneath the Baroque Church of St. John the Baptist there is the family crypt of the
Kounics. Seven members of the family are buried there, among them three princes, knights
of the Order of the Golden Fleece (including the chancellor Kounic), one member of the
Order of the German Knights and a Maltese Knight.
Another important monument is the Classicist Church of the Lord's Resurrection, built
between the years 1786-1789 according to the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Paris.
